Since 1952, the
Hemmingford Chamber of Commerce has been at work developing, promoting and
stimulating the commercial spirit of its members along with the two
municipalities and the community. The Chamber is working on its Action Plan
consisting of four distinctive and complimentary facets: business promotion
(industrial, small business and tourism) public affairs (education, politics, legislation,business
opportunities) community life (transport,traffic,education,organisation) while
working on developing its internal structure (recruiting,action plan,elections,
administration).
Since its
beginning, the Chamber has played a major role in several social and economic
projects:
- development of the Industrial Park Zone
- financial support in the construction of the St-Romain School Gym
- financial support in the construction
of the Hemmingford Recreational Center
- support on the Bell Canada file for a free toll program for Montreal calls
- workshops on local development, shop-at-home programs
- initiation of different working committees on Environment, local medical services, on sign bylaws
- publishing Commerce Hemmingford, a quarterly publication
- financial support of the Hemmingford Volunteer Ambulance Service
- publication of the Hemmingford Directory of businesses and organizations
- publication of the Hemmingford Tourism brochure and Welcome package
- organization of the Old Home Week activities under the tent, planning and administration of budget.
- Publication of Echo Hemmingford, a
monthly newsletter on economic and community activities in Hemmingford
- Membership focus-providing services for existing members; seminars via government and economic organizations
